Our Story

An instant friendship.

A little over a decade ago, during fall semester at UCLA, Somil and Manasi first met at a birthday party. Their connection was instant, and as their group of mutual friends grew, so did their friendship. She was an English major, and he was studying Biology...but somehow they just kept running into each other on campus?! From spontaneous beach days to late night movie sessions - Somil and Manasi started to form an unbreakable relationship that would flourish for many years to come.

"A friend knows the song in my heart
and sings it to me when my memory fails.”
― Donna Roberts

An overdue reunion.

After a picture-perfect summer, Somil left California for medical school and Manasi moved back to the Bay Area. But even as they went their separate ways, Somil and Manasi always held a special place for one another in their hearts. In 2020, in the midst of the loss and confusion of COVID, they found their way back to each other. After 6 months of long distance re-connecting, Manasi joined Somil in New York, where their friendship grew into a loving relationship.

“The pain of parting is nothing
to the joy of meeting again.”
― Charles Dickens

An intimate proposal.

On January 14, 2023, during the first snow of the winter season, Somil asked Manasi if she wanted to go for a walk with their dog, Banksy. They went on the usual route along the Upper East Side to the nearby Carl Shultz Park. Under the Peter Pan statue, Somil got down on one knee and proposed. Manasi's sister hid in the corner to capture the moment, and both families joined together in celebration. Needless to say, Manasi said yes.

“Lovers don't finally meet somewhere.
They're in each other all along.”
― Rumi

A full-circle moment.

On April 21, 2023, Somil and Manasi took it back to where it all started. In an intimate wedding at the UCLA Sculpture Garden (the same place they always ran into each other on campus) they signed, sealed, and delivered their commitment to each other. No sooner than the ink dried on their marriage certificate, the newlyweds moved back to Los Angeles, settled into their Los Feliz apartment, and started to plan their 2024 Big Fat Indian Wedding.
